After the devastating floods of 2023, when the swollen Sora River swept away the existing suspension footbridge between Rateče and Dol, we successfully completed the installation works for its reconstruction, once again enabling safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project, commissioned by the Municipality of Škofja Loka, was carried out as part of a public procurement process, with Gorenjska gradbena družba selected as the main contractor. Our company participated in the project as a subcontractor responsible for the key installation works.

The new suspension footbridge, spanning 60 meters between the support pylons, is based on two main steel cables with a diameter of 50 mm. As part of our scope of work, we supplied and installed the specialized load-bearing steel cables and assembled the steel substructure that forms the basis for the bridge’s stability and safe use.

A particular challenge during execution was the difficult terrain on the left bank of the Sora River, where access with heavy construction machinery was impossible. For this reason, all installation works were carried out using a portable cable crane system, which proved to be the key solution for the successful completion of the project. Such a system enables material transport over distances of up to 1 kilometer and can carry loads of up to 5 tons, with capacity adapted to the specific needs of the site.

The project is another example of successfully completed demanding field operations, where adaptability, technical expertise, and innovative solutions play a crucial role. The new bridge once again restores an important connection between the two banks of the Sora River and contributes to improved safety and accessibility for the local area.
