This year, extensive restoration works are underway along the Calvary path above the Church of St. Anthony in Idrija, involving the renovation of all 13 stations. Due to the demanding terrain and limited access, we installed a small cable crane system to transport construction materials directly to the worksite.
The cable crane operates as needed throughout the restoration period, depending on the daily requirements on site. Although it is not in constant operation, it plays a key role in transporting several tons of material without additional intervention in the natural environment.
Technically, it is a classic solution: smaller-diameter carrying and hauling steel cables enable the transport of loads up to 300 kg at a time. Instead of modern industrial transport trolleys, we chose a proven and locally recognizable solution — the traditional pulley trolley known in forestry as the “Idrija trolley.”
The restoration works are being carried out by VELB d.o.o., a construction company from Cerkno, on behalf of the Parish of Idrija. The project combines respect for cultural heritage, technical expertise, and adaptation to the natural environment.
