On the state road between Bovec and Predil, just beyond the junction leading toward Mangart, we carried out the rehabilitation of a retaining wall. The old stone retaining structure, which had protected the road for many years, was in very poor condition due to weather exposure and constant structural loads. Water had undermined its foundations, and individual stones had already begun falling out of the wall, posing a risk to both passing traffic and workers.
A safe and efficient approach to wall rehabilitation
Because the retaining wall beneath the road was in such poor condition, conventional construction methods using scaffolding would have been too risky and inefficient. We therefore opted for a rope access approach, which proved to be safer, faster, and more cost-effective. Members of our team safely descended the steep terrain and carried out the rehabilitation works directly where intervention was needed.
Demanding terrain requires precision
The rehabilitation took place beneath a vertical dry-stone retaining wall, where there was a constant risk of falling rocks or even larger sections of the structure collapsing. Due to vibrations and impact forces, every intervention involved a degree of risk, which is why all stages of the work were carefully planned and executed with exceptional caution.
Preserving the natural appearance
By carrying out the rehabilitation works, we ensured the stability of the retaining wall and improved traffic safety along this important road section. At the same time, we preserved the characteristic appearance of the stone structure, allowing it to continue blending naturally into the surrounding landscape and remain part of the local environment.
